This - the ethos behind Alessandro Michele’s reinvention of Gucci Beauty - is a powerful message to all those looking to break free from the traditional; a message that is so brilliantly conveyed by the campaigns imagery, championed to celebrate expressions of self from within.
The re-launch of the iconic label’s curtailed entry into the beauty industry begins with 58 shades of lipstick - and an all-out ballsy and refreshing advertising campaign set to re-invigorate anyone who has grown tired of the oftentimes neat-and-tidy approach to beauty standards.
The campaign images, shot by Martin Parr, and campaign film by Chris Simmonds, employ an 80s vignette to showcase the house’ infamous motifs in a quick-fire demonstration of diversity, fun, and frivolity.
Dani Miller, lead singer of punk band Surfbort, is the face of the campaign. Her wide-gapped smile is precisely what this campaign stands for: fight convention, and own your own you.
Together with models Mae Lapres, Achok Majak and Ellia Sophia Coggins, this campaign amuses our ideas of beauty and reminds us of the childish fun we once had with nothing but our mother's lipstick and a mirror - just the way Michele intended it.
